The Stander

Yesterday at Nathan's physiotherapy session, we got to take home a "stander". Basically it is this device that you strap your child in to make them stand. It helps children who do not stand to put some weight on their feet and get their bones used being in the standing position. I cannot leave Nathan by himself in it just incase he gets mad and decides to push himself over. Everyday he needs to go in it for 15-20 minutes, 2-3 times a day. Gradually we will increase the length of time. We still have to continue doing several other exercises with him (which I need to make a conscience effort to do).
So far he seems to like it. We place him in front of the chair or a table with some toys so he doesn't get too bored.

A few weeks ago at physio, we were sent home with a small table and chair for Nathan to use. This too is to encourage putting weight on his feet (although I'm not so sure how). Nathan is abit small for it though so we have to place a phone book behind him and a Sears catalogue under his feet so they will be flat. He loves sitting at it! I asked my dad to make us one since the therapist said they are high in demand and they don't like to loan them out for too long.

Nathan's so smiley... Sounds like you'll be having to spend most of your days at home in order to fill the time quota they've set out for the stander... if you get cabin fever- you know who to call:)
