First Steps

So as most of you know (well those of you who read this blog on a regular basis that is), Nathan has been in physio now for over a year. The goal- to get him mobile. At just over a year in age, Nathan was only sitting and that's all. No crawling, no scooting, no pulling himself up to standing. So over the past year and a half we have been meeting with Nicole every month to learn new ways and ideas of how to get Nathan moving. Progress has been made, first with Nathan bum scooting and then doing some crawling and pulling himself up to standing. He then started to walk around furniture, only for the last 3 months or so. At the last therapy session, almost a month ago now, they gave us a walker for Nathan to use. The first couple days we were faithful with practicing, bribing Nathan with marshmellows to walk around. But the walker soon fell to the wayside. It was a little hard for Nathan to steer and I just got lazy with making him use it. Then a few weeks ago when we were visiting my parents, my mom got Nathan to stand and take a couple of steps to Chris. Wow, we couldn't believe it! Nathan was taking steps on his own! So now we have been practing ever day and he is slowly getting the hang of it. I think it will take some time, building strength in his legs and learning how to balance better, but it looks like our prayers are being answered. Thank you to everyone who has been praying for this special boy! We are so grateful for them and praise our heavenly Father for all He has blessed us with.

What a joy to watch those little steps! You must be thrilled. I remember how precious it was to hear our sixth finally speak at 30 months; it was much more meaningful than the ones who could say some words on their first birthday. Keep it up!
