Chris was able to get the Civic Holiday Monday off (the afternoon anyways) and we went to Pinehurst Conservation area with his family (minus Sara, Jesse and Amanda) to spend time at the beach. It was a beautiful afternoon with hardly a cloud in the sky! Which also meant getting sun burnt if not wearing sunscreen. The water was a perfect temperature for cooling off.
The in-laws brought their canoe along for fishing.
Nathan wasn't feeling the greatest and stuck to sitting on a blanket or up by the picnic table under a tree.
Mary Beth had a grand time swimming and sunbathing :)
Mikayla was a happy girl, trying to eat rocks and drink the lake water when no one was looking :)
The brothers caught lots of little sunfish.
There was a sad event though. A lady was waking along the beach asking if there was a doctor around. She was pretty casual, asking the sunbathers quite calmly, not looking very panicked. Several minutes later an ambulance showed up. We could see several people in the distance performing CPR on someone. Not a good sight to see. The CPR continued for quite awhile (at least half an hour) before a second ambulance came as well as a police car. Because none of the ambulances rushed off with lights flashing and sirens wailing, we think the person died. What a sad way to spend a holiday for some family :( I felt guilty for having a "fun" time while others were morning the loss of a loved one. But death is a reality of life...
